A note from Dr. Pauline about our counseling model

 

When I was in graduate school I had to take at least four classes on marriage counseling. Every class outlined the standard methods of marriage counseling available under the psychological models. Given that only 10% of marriages stay together, even after going to marriage counseling, I thought that this involved an awful lot of work for very little return. I decided that, given the methods available and the level of success, I didn’t want to be involved with marriage counseling.

 

As I was finishing up my Doctorate God brought the connecting to care model of marriage counseling developed by John Regier into my life. I immediately realized that the emotional/spiritual aspects of this program was what was missing from all the other models I had studied. After my husband and I went through the counseling program together, we realized that we could not know about this and not have me learn how to do this counseling.

 

So I trained with John for about eight months. I have integrated this model of intensive counseling into all aspects of the Dunamas™ Center, and I am particularly gratified using this model in premarital counseling, because it quickly becomes apparent if the couple will be able to maintain a healthy, heart-connected adventure over the long haul. I am also excited about integrating the connecting to care aspects into the childbirth education classes to help couples avoid the pitfalls that often come with having a child.
